Customer Question

My Beetle has a 1300cc Single Port engine and I would like to have the engine completely reconditioned and made into a 1641cc with twin Weber 34 ICT's. I have made some enquiries but have been informed that it can be made into a 1641cc but because it is a Single Port I cannot have twin Webers. Could anyone please advise me:-
a) If I stick with the existing engine what carb would be best for a Single Port
b) Can the existing engine be converted to twin port or would it be better to buy a new or reconditioned 1641cc.
Many thanks,
Jon

Country: United Kingdom

Engine: 1300cc

Already Tried:
Looks like my engine is a replacement as the VW Museum in Germany have conirmed my engine number "F" code was built between 12.68 and 07.69 and engines with a letter “F” have 40 DIN-PS 1.3 litres.

DR. Hamman :

Hi, I am a professional certified mechanic, with an engineering background, and 35+ years experience. I will do my best to assist you. Also keep in mind I don't know if you are a pro or a novice so we may have to fine tune the answer. Feel free to add any additional info you feel is needed as we go on. Always keep in mind that I am here to help you with any questions.

The single port heads cant take advantage of larger carbs, like the ones you want even if you could bolt them up. So if you are after more power you really need to go with a dual port head. I have owned, and built many VW engines, and what I would do is to find a 1600 dual port engine and use it as the basis or your engine build. There are other advantages to the newer engine, and you can install lots more performance parts, and carbs onto the 1600 dual port. More power, and more reliability, it is really a good move. Also it bolts right up to your VW. If you have any more questions, as always, I am here to help. Good luck with it, have a great day, and Thanks for using Just Answer.

I hope this helps, 100% satisfaction is my goal. Myself personally, and Just Answer are here to serve you. If the answer is not clear, let me know what additional help you need, and I will assist you further. A bonus and positive feedback are always appreciated, good luck and Thanks.
