Hello Kent,

My name is Dale,

Well Kent ALL point style distributors (UNLESS IT IS AN ENGLISH POSITIVE GROUND SYSTEM) the small primary wire from the points goes to the (-) side of the ignition coil. The other small (Primary) wire comes from the ignition switch to the (+) side of the coil.

I can try to find you a picture but that is how to wire it together.

Let me know if you need more help.

Have a Blessed & Productive Day !

Sincerely,

Dale

Kent,

1979 Cougar and back to 1072 show a electronic control distributor. But here is a 1971 (POINT STYLE) schematic since I guess you are switching back to the old style system.

Let me know what else you need.
