i am instlling 1988 npr motor and auto trans in 54 chevy truck need help with wiring motor and trans to run properly I have harness out of isuzu truck but only wanted to use what is needed to control motor and trans
Hello,
My name is Dale.
Is this a computer controlled engine or just a simple 6 cylinder or V-8. If it is not computer controlled and if I were doing the design, fabrication and installation of the wiring harness, I WOULD BUILD MY OWN ! That way I know where everything is and how it is wired. You might want to use a fuse panel or power control center from another vehicle but beyond that, you could build your own and get all components working using soldered joints and shrink wrap and then use a high quality 3-M tape and wrap your own harness. This is what I would do. It is fairly time consuming and you do need to understand wire size relationship to the amount of amps being drawn through any given circuit, But beyond that you could design a harness that specifically works properly for your truck. The problem with using a scrap harness is that you do not really know how good the wiring is internally, the types of connectors used, plus you usually end up with a bunch of wires that go no where so if you ever have electrical problems and need to trace out a circuit it immediately becomes a headache.
Of course there are companies that make up generic harnesses but from what I hear from many of my customers is that most of these harnesses leave a lot to be desired and usually they do not just fall into the vehicle. There are always modifications that have to be made and many times you end up redesigning the generic harness to work right on your vehicle. NOTE: THERE IS NO EASY WAY TO DO THIS JOB ! But if you build it yourself and you have the time, patience and know how to do it, you will end up with a much nicer electrical harness in the end,
Have a Blessed & Productive Day !
Sincerely,
Dale
PS- Others WILL disagree with my position on this, but I have been there and done it both ways. So I really understand where you are at and what I think you want to achieve when you are finished.
this is a4 cyl. turbo diesel with computer control trans. by isuzu
Well, in that case, if you have the harness for the 4 cylinder diesel it will have to be integrated into the existing truck. This is going to require some fabrication, design alteration and basic electrical work. At least you have the harness. Do you have a wiring schematic for the Isuzu? If not I will check my data bases and see if I can find one for you. If not you are going to need a Shop Service Manual to be able to tell what goes where and what size conductors you are going to need to integrate the harness into your 1954 Chevy Truck. It really sound like a fun project.
What else can I do to help?
i dont have schematic for 88 isuzu diesil its for an npr truck
I will look but the NPR are hard to find. I will let you know what I can find.
My data base that has the wiring diagrams in it lists the Trooper, Amigo & the Rodeo for the 4 cylinder. Not sure which one if any of these would help.
it was also known by chevrolet as w4 or w4500 built by isuzu
Well I am going to take a shot in the dark here. Check out this one schematic and see if it matches. If it does I have all the others for the same vehicle.
Have you checked out the diagram yet?
Let me know if that schematic helps at all. I am limited for the NPR wiring schematics. I had another customer a few months ago where we got into the NPR wiring harness and injection problems and we ended up finding a manual that would show the electrical harness layout.
Let me know.
I did a little more research for you and found this site that has the downloadable manual for the 1999 2000 2001 ISUZU CHEVY GMC NPR NPR HD NQR W500 W4500 W5500 4HE1-TC 4HE1 TC 4HE1TC DIESEL ENGINE SERVICE / REPAIR / WORKSHOP MANUAL.
http://www.tradebit.com/filedetail.php/140068494-1999-2000-2001-isuzu-chevy-gmc-npr.
I am not sure if it is a free download or if you have to pay something to get it. But I would think in your case it certainly would be worth any reasonable price.
I really hope this helps.
Please respond and let me know if you want me to continue or if you plan to accept the answers and research I have done.
PS- I see the price now. It is $ 19.95 for the manual.
