I AM RESTORING A 39 FORD PICKUP. WE ARE COMPLETLY REBUILDING IT. WE ARE CURRENTLY DEBATING WEATHER TO LEAVE IT 6 VOLT OR CONVERT TO 12 AND SHOULD WE INSTALL AN ELECTRONIC IGNITION.

this will mainly depend on if you are showing it, class & originality

 

I prefer the 6 volt system & even upgrade Battery to 8 Volt
Anything else (12 Volts) you will need to do some conversion, Ignition, Guages, Lights, Charging Circuit, Negative Ground.

 

Depending if the Flathead is 1939 or later (front Distributor or Top), if you convert to 12 volts Electronic Ignition is better, but totally a personal call, as Points will do the job also
There are many ways to do 12 volt conversion & will depend on pocket book & labor
