could you put the wrong pvc valve in a 1961 Olds 394 engine and have it pressure up enough to blow oil out the oil filler cap all over the engine and inside the hood Russ

Hi Russ,Not really. All PCV valves are pretty much the same. Its just a valve that opens and closes rapidly to vent the crankcase...It doesnt have to have a broken ring to have too much blow-by like this, they can just not be sealing all the way from the rings getting hot and losing the tensile strength that keeps the rings "pressed" against the cylinders.Have you done a compression test yet?
