My fuel gauge isnt working...where do I start?The tank is full.

my fuel gauge isn't working...where do I start?

The tank is full. The gauge shows empty.

Disconnect the wire on the fuel tank that goes to the sending unit inside(float) and ground that wire to a good body metal somewhere and if the gauge goes all the way up(key on), it's a bad sending unit (float) or a bad ground wire.. If it doesn't go up, it could be either that wire that goes from the tank to the gauge, or the gauge itself.
