Customer Question

Hi! I have a Pt Cruiser 2005 Touring Edition. After an Interstate travel, the engine will skip a beat (shake for a second) and then go into overheating. I travel around town all day long and the gauge never exceeds the 1/2 point. The engine light is always on. I've had the fan replaced and the radiator...any suggestions? Thanks

Not on the interstate, as soon as I got off of the interstate.
I take that back, once while on interstate.

Customer: replied 8 days ago.

Expert:  Tim's Auto Repair replied 8 days ago.

ok...did you replace the radiator for this same problem?

Expert:  Tim's Auto Repair replied 8 days ago.

does the fans come on?

Customer: replied 8 days ago.
the mechanic that did the work on the car said that this happens to all PT Cruisers 2005 or older. The engine light is always on and yes, to your answer above.
We can hear the fan kicking on.
Customer: replied 8 days ago.
As soon as we get off of the interstate and stop at a light, the engine will act as if it wants to stall and then it overheats.

ok

lets try something first..

lets try bleeding the system, sense the cooling system has been worked on,you may now have air in the system.

lets bleed it this way

1-remove the radiator/reservoir cap when the engine is cold

2-start the engine and let idle

3-turn the heater on max

4-keep coolant on hand and add it as needed

5-spme coolant may gush out with the air

6-keep doing this until the engine is at operating tempeture and the heater is hot

7-after the coolant settles down and the engine is warm,,install the cap

This may take as long as 20-30 minutes

this may fix your problem.

if not and from the way you explain,,you may have a blown head gasket
