Customer Question

2001 PT Cruiser won't start. It's not the relays or fuses, or the battery. It's something to do with the chip in the key &/or the computer & the anti-theft system?
JA: How many miles are on the car? Has the car been starting normally?
Customer: It has over 200,000 miles. Yes it was starting normally before
JA: Are you fixing your PT Cruiser yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Replaced computer. Tried to key reprogrammed. They couldn't do it.

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Red light flashing on dash. Oh yeah a fuse keeps blowing
Expert:  Amedee replied 6 months ago.

Thank you for that information. Can I get your VIN and which fuse is blowing? That way I can get you correct information specific to your vehicle.

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I'm not at the car right now. I'll have get back to you in a couple of hours. Is that ok?
Expert:  Amedee replied 6 months ago.

VIN #: 3C8FY4BBX1T310734
Fuses under the hood by the firewall.
Expert:  Amedee replied 6 months ago.

Thank you for that information. Can I get the fuse number that is blowing?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I think it's 10
Expert:  Amedee replied 6 months ago.

Can you double check for me to be sure?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
It was the fourth one down from left in the back
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
15
Expert:  Amedee replied 6 months ago.

If your sure it is fuse 15 in the PDC under the hood, then try disconnecting or removing the transmission control relay in the PDC and see if the fuse no longer blows. If so, then the problem may be in the wiring or transmission control module. Here is a wiring diagram.

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
It was fuse #7 20amp
Expert:  Amedee replied 6 months ago.

Ok, fuse number 7 goes to the ABS module. It is actually on the same wiring diagram I sent.. just look up towards the top of the diagram and you will see fuse 7 in the PDC

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
But, why does the fuse keep blowing? Why won't my car start?
Expert:  Amedee replied 6 months ago.

You are going to need to do some testing to get those answers. The starting issue may or may not be related. I can walk you through this diagnoses if you would like..

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I will have to get back with you. I'm not with car. I will text you when I get there. Ok
Expert:  Amedee replied 6 months ago.
