2004 2.7L Sebring. Oil light comes on and stays on about 100

Customer Question

2004 2.7L Sebring. Oil light comes on and stays on about 100 miles into a trip. I bought Seafoam and haven't used it yet.
JA: Just to clarify, what are the exact lights you're talking about?
Customer: Oil light only.
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I changed the oil the first time it happened. Didn't help. I have read about narrow galleries and sludge build up. That is why I bought Seafoam engine treatment.
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: The oil light has been coming on for about 10k miles occasionally when coming to a stop sign or red light. This could be stopped by dropping to neutral and revving the engine.

Hi, welcome to Just Answer. I’m Ron and I’ll be helping you
today.
Before we get started though, Please understand that I don't know
your skill level or tools you have to assist us. Also understand that
I can't see, smell, hear, or touch the vehicle either, so patience is
appreciated. JA is a great Q/A site, but it does NOT replace a
repair shop.
My goal is to make you happy and get a great rating in return for
my time. Sometimes I have to give you bad news that I know you
didn’t want to hear, so please don’t shoot the messenger.

Sea foam won't help this issue, but you may want to check the engine oil for a sludge buildup. Pull off the oil fill cap and look underneath it to see if there is sludge on it. Check the oil pressure with a gauge and check the oil pressure sending unit for proper operation.

Thanks, Ron

After the oil change when driving the oil light came on. I checked the oil it was fine but there was some oil leaking out from under the fill cap.

Okay, my main concern right now is the oil pressure being right and sludge in the oil. See if you can get a look inside the valve cover with the cap off to check for sludge.

Thanks again and please remember to rate me 5 stars and keep this link in case you need me again later on. Ron

No sludge under cap. Just fresh oil.

Okay, then check the oil pressure with a gauge or just replace the oil pressure sending unit to see if that fixes it. It's one of the 2.

Do you know where the sending unit is located?

Here it is.
