Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

There are several things that can prevent the top from opening. The problem could be a mechanical failure preventing movement of a component. It could be a hydraulic issue such as a bad pump or low fluid. The problem may be electrical, if the power top control module doesn't see all components in the correct state during operation then it will stop operation. A scan tool may be necessary to diagnose the problem.

What message are you seeing on the instrument cluster regarding the top at the time it stops moving?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
No message at all

You'll see a message about the top's operation no matter what if it's operating or you're attempting to operate it. Can you check to see what it's showing?

My daughter put a bin in the trunk. The cradle was up and she put it not on the cradle but begind and broke obe of the pins which hold it in place. We were able to fix the pin and everything seems in place. Is there some tyoe of censor she could had messed up?
Expert:  sprinkles08 replied 3 months ago.

I asked what message you were seeing on the instrument luster when attempting to close it and your post simply said 'top'. What is the rest of the message?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Thats it. Just says. Top
Expert:  sprinkles08 replied 3 months ago.

It won't just say top unless the instrument cluster display has also failed. It will say top malfunction or top in operation.

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Just checked again...it just says. TOP
Customer: replied 3 months ago.

Was it the cargo divider that you were describing being broken?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
When u unfold the cargo theres a pin on each side which holds it up in place. One of those were cracked so we put a dowl in it so it was sturdy. Does that make sense?
Expert:  sprinkles08 replied 3 months ago.

That's the cargo divider. If it's not correctly in place during operation then the top will stop moving. This is something you're going to want to check.

Further than that, if no mechanical problems can be seen you're going to need a scan tool capable of reading fault codes and monitoring data in the power top control module to begin further diagnosis.
