Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

It's possible that your trans fluid level is simply low. In some cases I've seen low fluid level cause the torque converter clutch to engage when coming to a stop. Low fluid level will also cause the trans to not engage if it's low enough for the pump to suck air.

Which engine do you have?

Have you checked for fault codes?

Does the engine only die when off the throttle and coming to a stop?
