The distributor is a common failure on a 2.5. The ignition coil is built into it. Can you get it to not start? If so, when it doesn't start, pull a spark plug wire off of a front plug, stick a screwdriver in the plug wire and hold the metal shank close to the tip of the spark plug and have someone crank the engine. With the screwdriver in the spark plug wire, when you are cranking the engine, the spark should jump to the plug when it's within 1/4 inch of the tip of the spark plug. Keep your hand away from the metal on the screwdriver, only hold the handle. If there is spark and you get too close to the metal, you will get zapped. It won't kill you, its very low current but it's around 40,000 volts and will give you a jolt. Just be careful.
