.

Typically this is caused from the PCM. Use of Dealer DRB Scan Tool is needed to test.
The PCM gets a signal from the Engine Temperature Sensor
The PCM then turns on the "Low Speed Fan Relay" or the "High Speed Fan Relay", depending on the Engine Temperature.

The PCM supplies a Ground - to the Relays to activate them

what does the PCM stand for, and can I buy it? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I'm trying to learn about my car.

.

not dumb..........

PCM = Powertrain Control Module
This is the Engine Computer, that activates a number of components.
Fuel Pump, Injectors, Ignition, Fan, etc.
