Customer Question

2005 PT cruiser convertible turbo
This happens yearly
1.Engine light flashes
2. flashing ceases
3. Engine light flashes then stays on may last 1 or 2 days then goes off
4. Couple of weeks later same thing but this time engines stumbles and cuts off Restart engine light on but no problems. Park in drive way sit overnight engine light on when restart. There have been restarts where the odometer doesn't go above 20 MPH or the cruise light doesn't come on Then you know you will have problems with engine stumbling. When this craziness id going on if you put on air guaranteed to cut off and stumble. Start plugs and wires replaced 2 years ago Aver miles driven oer year around 10,000

Brad :

Hello and Welcome to JustAnswer, My name is XXXX XXX I will be assisting you.. Have you had the codes read to see what they are?

Customer :

I looked on line the P0300 ir regarding misfire of cylinders but does not state which one and then there is a multitude of other things that may effect this code It was very general

Customer :

My mechanic worked for 3 days driving it and trying to get it to act upbut nothing I drove it home and the light came on less than 1 mile from the shop and cut off 3 times in less than 5 miles . I took it back Thursday with the light on picked it up today no light drove with air on no problems He recommended taking it to chrysler which makes me very anxious

Customer :

He reset everything

Brad :

The P-0300 is Multiple Cylinder Misfire.. That means that there are more then 2 cylinders that aren't firing correctly..

Customer :

So how would they find out which one and what is the solution

Brad :

Is that the only code that the vehicle has?

Customer :

it is the only one showing for me when I do the on/off don't know what he found

Brad :

I'm researching you issues thru Chrysler now.. Just a sec. Thanks!

Customer :

What is it with these cruisers I have a friend that this happens to also but her's is not a convertible My car is possessed

Customer :

This is the only proble I have had with this car

Brad :

I found a bulletin on your issues.. Click HERE to view.

Brad :

It involves replacing the spark plugs and wires, and re-programming your PCM with the latest software to correct it...

Brad :

The software update runs 1Hr labor at a dealership.. The price varies from 65.00Hr/-95.00/Hr..

Customer :

ok that was going to be my next question regarding the cost of the programing up date So let me make sure we are on the same page the update of the software update should run between 65 and 95 dollars no other hidden cost here and then the cost of repacing the spark plugs and wires

Brad :

You are 100% correct.. I didn't know if you allready had the other shop replace them allready or not.. But yes, get the plugs and wires changed if not allready.. And get it to a Chrysler dealership and have then update the PCM.. and It shouldn't cose more than 100.00. Make sure you ask them first though.. If over 100.00 call to a different dealership..

Customer :

He did not want to replace anything for fear it would not be the right thing He is very good and fair I just needed to talk to someone else to make sure He said there must be a prob with the computer I was having nightmares that it was going to be bad in regards XX XXXXX but your have eased my mind I do like to go in with some knowledge Thanks so much I feel more confident now and you certainly have eased my mind Have a goodnight

Brad :

You are more then welcome!!!
