On a 2004 PT Cruiser whats the best way to determine if a bearing growl coming from the front end while in motion is from the drivers or passengers side and how do you determine if its the outer wheel bearing or the inner transaxle bearing? Also whats an estimated cost for repair? Thanks.

hi
the best way to tell if it is the left or right..is to swirve the car from left to right wile driving..this will shift the weight of the car to the bad bearing and should be louder...lets say it gets quieter when swirving right,,this would mean the right bearing is bad,,because the weight of the car is shifted left...if it gets louder..then,it is the left bearing..
there is no godd way to tell if it is a transaxle bearing...if it is the transaxle it will have the same tone all the time..
i cant give you the exact cost of replacing the bearing,,because most shops charge a different hourly rate...i can give you the time it takes to replace the bearing,,it takes about 1.3 hours
thanks
