2006 PT Cruiser: stall..slow down..it idles too low 550 rpms in gear

Resolved Question:

I have a 2006 PT Cruiser with approximately 58K miles. My problem is that the motor tends to stall out/shut off when I slow down or most recently stopped. My husband feels it idles too low 550 rpms in gear and he feels it should be around 800 rpms in gear. Seems to stall out more often with air/heat running.

Can you offer any assistance?

b5demon :

The idle speed is a little low it should be around 700

Customer:

Do we need to take the car to a garage to adjust the idle or is that something we might be able to do

b5demon :

There is no adjustment the idle speed is controlled by the computer by an idle speed motor on the throttle body usually what happens is the idle speed motors get stuck and then don't control the idle properly the fix is to replace the idle speed motor

Customer:

how much would that cost? ball park figure....

b5demon :

usually around $100 depending on the labor costs in you area
