I have a 2005 Chevy G3500 box truck. I lost the key to the truck. Does the key have a chip? What is the easiest way to get a new key made? Can the dealership do it by the title?

Hello! My name is***** to JustAnswer. I'm reviewing your question now, and will post back with your reply momentarily.

Yes the dealer can do it with the VIN number.

They need proof of ownership and a driver license

Is there a chip in the key? Also about how much should the key be? Would it be cheaper to go through a locksmith?

The keys do not contain any coded electronic components.

I think the cost of the key and coding should be around $50.

Not sure how much a locksmith will charge.
