Customer Question

96 k3500 with 454, 4x4. 50 amp fuse 2nd to bottom(under hood fuse box) blows with ignition off as you try to replace it. Gauges on dash don't reset, truck will turn over fine but no ignition.

Customer: Can turn wheel, key works fine (original) but turns over starter fine
JA: What is the model of your '96 Chevy?
Customer: K3500
JA: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Yes, taking it back out of 4High and chasing wiring I can see
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: The ignition is in the off position when fuse blows. Code thrown, O2, transmission control system

Replaced ignition and key cylinder that I had ordered previously cause the turn of cylinder didn't feel right. Truck started right up. Thinking just a coincidence that fuse blew at same time cause I put it in 4x4. Haven't been home since talked to you. Long work hours away from home.. Will check 4 x 4 actuator Sat.

Got it figured out. New actuator solved fuse problem. 4 low would lock but no power to actuator from transfer solenoid. Jumped wires on solenoid to switch. All is good now. We live in really cold temperatures so will go to manual eventually. Thanks but problem is solved and we all good.
