Customer Question

i have a 2006 chevrolet express 3500, has 280.000 miles, the transmission has a ¨whinning" in D or R only, in neutral the noise dissapears or parking, during acceleration the whinning continue until dissapears over 30 miles, the transmission still working fantastic considering mileage shift smoothly and precise. i went to the transmission shop, they said is a lack of lubrication in the trapezoidal or something i do not remember well and they insist is necessary to rebuilt the transmission right away. Can i continue with this noise until it really fail? can i resolve this issue adding an additive or replace the filter? i installed a cheap aftermarket the last time i change the fluid.

Hi there,

Sounds like a planetary gearset noise.

Some don't get much louder, some go bang with an ultimate failure, including transmission case fracture.

Then it gets more expensive.

It's your choice, but I would have the transmission rebuilt soon.
