I have a 2004 Chev Venture where the left turn signal

Customer Question

Hi, I have a 2004 Chev Venture where the left turn signal flashes rapidly, the main front left dual-filament bulb is lit when the headlights are on but it doesn't flash when the signal is on. The socket was black and charred so I replaced it however the issue persists - I have tested all bulbs and they all check out
JA: Have you checked the fuses? Have you checked the bulbs?
Customer: Yes bulbs, no fuses
JA: Are you fixing your Venture yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: checked all bulbs and replaced the front left turn signal socket
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: not at this time

Hi Im David, do both turn signal work in the rear?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
both rear signals function normally
Expert:  david craig replied 1 month ago.

swap the turn signal flasher with the hazard flasher. see if that makes a difference.

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
The same flasher is used for both hazard and turn signals

thanks but i know that. there are different contacts inside the flasher.

try replacing the flasher? It appears to be a non-serviceable part. I could try disassembling it but it might be easier to simply get a new one.

well when a flasher is used for both hazards ans turn signals, the contact for the signals are used 1000 more times than the contacts for the hazards and tend to wear out/break/short together. have you tried another bulb yet?

Expert:  david craig replied 1 month ago.

im surprised the other signal isnt flashing rapidly. this usually happens when there is a break down of the flasher. it can also be a malfunction of the multi function switch on the steering column when left turn is selected.

and both signals run through the drl module with separate contact for them inside.

Expert:  david craig replied 1 month ago.

i think the best way to go about this is to pull the flasher module and using a test light, select left turn and see if its rapid flashing at that point.

ill send you a few prints of the circuit so you can better understand it.

here you go

Expert:  david craig replied 1 month ago.

do you still need assistance?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I still need to test the flasher
