Customer Question

I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3L V8 single cab long bed.
I have had 4x4 problems since I have owned the truck. 3 years ago I replaced the switch inside the truck, the actuater, and the vacuum pump. The only electronic thing that I have not replaced as far as my 4x4 is the control module. After I replaced all the stuff I listed besides the control module I gave up and never touched my 4x4 drive. However in recent developments, it has kicked in on its own and kicks out on its own and the lights on my switch never changes. In the past I didn't replace the control module because many people swore up and down that it's unheard of to replace it and that I shouldn't. So based on that I thought my transfer case was trashed. Now I am thinking it is the control module but really don't want to spend another $235 and then find out it still isn't fixed.

what does it do when you press the button?

will it go into low gear?

Expert:  Tim's Auto Repair replied 7 months ago.

what actuator did you replace?

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
The lights would change but the 4x4 didn't work still. The actuater (spelling) on my front end

so,,when you put the button in low,,the low light would light up...

did the case itself go into low,,could you tell it was in low by driving?

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
I tested them by having my whole truck on jack stands in the shop to see if all 4 wheels even turn or just the rear. And regardless what buttons I pushed it always was just the rear spinning

but,,does it actually go into low?

Expert:  Tim's Auto Repair replied 7 months ago.

i am trying to determine if the transfer case actuator is really shifting the transfer case itself
