Hello and welcome!

My name isCustomerand I can assist you with your question.

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I have Chevrolet Malibu that has a new battery and new ignition starter switch, but still will not turn over.
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I had been able to jump start the car, but now it will not even jump start. Local mechanic mentioned that the car was not recognizing key and that I need to take to dealer to re-program, but I am not sure that is the issue.
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I see the car with lock through it on the dashboard when I turn the key. I can make the car turnover by shorting starter or starter relay, but it will not start.

Can I start by getting your VIN?

Thank you!

Thank you for that information.

Are there any codes in the computer?

Are there any anti theft or security lights on or flashing on the cluster when trying to start the engine?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
No computer codes. The lock thru car light comes on when I turn ignition to start. In the past then anti theft light used to flash, but after putting car in shop 3 times for not starting that light no longer is flashing.
Expert:  AMEDEE replied 1 month ago.

How did you check for codes in the computer?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Tester showed 0 codes.
Expert:  AMEDEE replied 1 month ago.

Did the shop disable the theft light?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
No.
Expert:  AMEDEE replied 1 month ago.

Ok, you will need to check the starting circuit to see where the circuit is losing power. I would go right to the relay and check for two powers and one ground with the key in the CRANK position. This is on the female pins (where you plug the relay in) with the relay removed.

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I did that and I am getting power to the relay. I can short the relay and make the motor turn over, but when you turn the key the motor will not turn over.
Expert:  AMEDEE replied 1 month ago.

So is the relay getting grounded to activate?

Expert:  AMEDEE replied 1 month ago.

I would be willing to bet not..

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I replaced ignition starter switch but I did not replace switch cylinder. Local mechanic says car not recognizing switch, so dealer need to re-program.
Expert:  AMEDEE replied 1 month ago.

So what needs to be programmed?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Switch to recognize key.
Expert:  AMEDEE replied 1 month ago.

Ok, so did they do that?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
No, I have not taken to shop because that switch does not have passlock sensor on it, so it seems to be all mechanical.
Expert:  AMEDEE replied 1 month ago.

So if it is mechanical, why does it need to be programmed?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
That is what I am trying to understand?????
Expert:  AMEDEE replied 1 month ago.

Would you be willing to speak on the phone?
