Hello, my name is***** to clarify, when you cover the sensor the DRL's come on or the headlamps come on? Do all of the other exterior lights work fine?

Thank you. Most of the time the issue is in the DRL relay. The relay fails and causes this. It can also be a circuit issue as the resistor fails or there is a problem with the switch. It would take some testing to know for sure. You can remove the DRL relay and switch it with a similar relay to see if they start to work. If they do then the relay is bad.
