Customer Question

I have a 98 astro van that cranks, but will not start. The previous owner put a new fuel pump and fuel pump rely in it, with no success.
JA: Have you checked the engine's fuel supply? And the spark plugs -- are they all working?
Customer: I havent looked in to those. However, the fuel pump itself doesn't prime when the key is turned to run either
JA: Are you fixing your Astro yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Yes. I have tried to test for power on the fuel pump relat itself, nut I haven't found anything
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: That's about it at this point

Have you checked the inputs to the fuel pump relay?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
I have put my multimeter into the female terminals on the fuel pump relay, and gronded the other one out....there was no power to any of the 4
Expert:  AMEDEE replied 2 months ago.

The fuel pump relay gets two powers and one ground to activate. One terminal should have ground at all times. One of the powers comes from the ECM B 20 amp fuse in the underhood fuse box (and it should be hot at all times) and the other power comes from the computer when you turn the key on and while cranking. Here is a wiring diagram.

I just went through everything and it was the ECM B 20 fuse.....must have missed it before. Fired right up. Thanks!
