When I started my vehicle the message "battery saver mode"

When I started my vehicle the message "battery saver mode" came on the other lights stated to show (traction control, battery light, etc.) I did make it home, but it shout down everything. What may have caused this.
JA: Have you tested the battery? Have you tried testing the alternator?
Customer: battery is fairly new. alternator not tested. He did try to put cables on but when he did it sparked. He said something else was wrong because that should not happen.
JA: What is the model/year of your Chevy?
Customer: 2007 Acadia
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Yes, just got someone out to look at it this morning, have done anything yet.
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: No, not sure

Hello and welcome! My name isCustomerand I can assist you with your question. The computer has detected an electrical issue and it shut down some circuits to save on battery life. Even if the battery is fairly new, I would still have it load tested anyway just to ensure it is good and has a full charge on it. If that checks out good, then I would suspect a bad/failed alternator as that is the most common cause of this condition.
