Is there a way to tell if the sensor was bad? And also, the reverse lights come on when it's in park, and not when its in reverse....it was doing this at the time it would not shift gears.

the neutal safety switch on the drivers side of the transmission where the shift cable connects to the shift shaft..it is out of adjustment

you could test the speed sensor with an ohm meter
