Hi Gary,
We are working on testing the ABS. We can communicate the signal from it now, but it seems that the unit is locked when removed from the car. Do you have any idea how to unlock it? Thanks!
Expert:  Gary replied 3 months ago.

The high speed CAN-BUS goes straight through the EBCM while in the car.

Out of the car, I would say the EBCM is logging codes for unable to communicate with all the other high speed modules, ECM, TCM, etc.

I really don't think you will get anywhere with what you are doing.

Diagnosis in car is straightforward.

Can tell me the DTC code you had in the vehicle?

And I will help you.

Dear Gary,
Thanks very much for your information. We have many ABS collected, and it became not economical to test every one of them in the car. We have one person who knows how to send information via CAN bus for testing. Other types of ABS work, however he said that this type was locked when removed from car, and there should be some codes/ tools to unlock and test the valve and pumps, since the service shop should be able to unlock and replace it. What is your opinion on this? Do you have any idea of how service shops do it? Thanks! Best regards!

I don't know how they do what you need to do.

I normally diagnose a fault like this in car.

I hope my advice has been of assistance to you.

Kind regards
