I have a 2007 chevy avalanche with the 5.3 check engine

i have a 2007 chevy avalanche with the 5.3 check engine light came on the other day and said oil pressure sending unit, i replaced it and i'm still having the problem of the oil pressure gauge dropping and the stop engine alert coming on. truck sounds alright when running though. but i dont want to run it if i'm truly having an oil pressure problem...
JA: Does the light stay on, or does it blink?
Customer: the light went off right after replacing the sensor, but came back on and has stayed on after 10min of driving. the gauge starts out above 40psi when i first turn on the truck, but within 10min it starts falling and eventually hits 0...
JA: What is the model of your '07 Chevy?
Customer: avalanche
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: i change the sending unit... i dont have a gauge to check the actual pressure, but thinking about taking it to a shop to have it done...
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: it only has 50k miles on the truck, but i know the DOD or AFM causes problems for the engine...
