Customer: it is not the correct key
JA: What is the model/year of your Chevy?
Customer: 2006 hhr
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: tried dental picks and attempting to replace the assembly
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?

can you see the broken off key? if you can you may can use super glue and attach a tooth pick and get it out. unfortunately chances are it won't cooperate. You most liely will need to drill out the cylinder so you can turn it without a key so that you may remove the old cylinder and replace it. your dealer can recode new cylinder to the original key so you don't have 2 keys 1 for doors and 1 for locks. The new key will have to be learned to the vehicle in order for it to start and run correctly.
