2008 Chevy equinox 3.4 Vin: 2CNDL13R786020176 came in, found

Customer Question

2008 Chevy equinox 3.4
Vin: 2CNDL13R786020176
came in for overheating, found radiator busted...changed radiator and temp sending unit and added coolant...cleared codes and test drive...all good. After customer left and drove for a about 12 miles it started again... The dash read out says overheating and a/c command off but with a scanner the engine is not overheating. The temp gauge drops to 0 and the fans come on high and do not shut off even if you turn key off. If you clear codes it goes back to normal for a while then starts all over again????? Suggestions?

good morning my name is ***** ***** I will assist

did you change the thermostat??? it definitely needs to be changed

with the rad busted as you say, that most likely happened from over pressure such as a head gasket leaking compression into the cooling system. you need to do a leak down test on each cylinder to see if there is damage to the head gasket

did you check the coolant sensor>> that is the one for the computer, not the gauge.

I would start with basics first
