Customer Question

It keeps shutting 7
JA: What is the model/year of your Chevy?
Customer: 1994 Silverado 1500 series V6
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Yes I'm starting by changing the fuel filter but I'm thinking it's something electrical
JA: How many miles are on the car? How has your mileage been lately?
Customer: 283,000 mil8
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: Not at this time. This is the only problem I'm having trouble with so far.
JA: OK. Got it. I'm sending you to a secure page on JustAnswer so you can place the $5 fully-refundable deposit now. While you're filling out that form, I'll tell the Chevy Mechanic about your situation and then connect you two.

Hello and welcome. My name is ***** ***** you for visiting the site.

I am not sure if I know what 'shutting 7' means. Does that mean shutting down?

Driving or at stops?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Shutting down while driving. It just kills.

I see, thanks. Do you know if there are any trouble codes? If you jump terminals "A" and "B" on the diagnostic connector, (with the key on) you can read the flashes of the check engine light. Just to see if it could be ignition related.

No I'm working on it myself to try to save money. Did not bring it to a mechanic.
Expert:  Super Mechanic replied 3 months ago.

Yes, that is fairly easy to do. If you jump the "A" and "B" terminals on the ALDL connector and turn on the key the check engine light will flash a code 12, (3 times) and then it will flash any trouble codes 3 times each and go back to code 12. We want to see if there are any electronic spark type of codes.

Here is a link to the connector pinout with the instructions for the diagnostics. Thanks
