1999 suburban fuse # 9 blows as soon as I turn on

Customer Question

1999 suburban fuse # ***** blows as soon as I turn on headlights. Replaced trailer hitch 7 pin connector and it still blows.
JA: Have you checked the fuse for the headlight circuit? How are the bulbs?
Customer: Bulbs seem to be fine the circuit also includes taillights and they are out too
JA: Tell me a bit more about what's going on so he can help you best.
Customer: The directionals and brake lights are still working
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself?
Customer: I have replaced the 7 pin connector myself
JA: Is there anything else the Chevy Mechanic should be aware of about your Chevy?
Customer: Nope It was fine up until yesterday
JA: OK. Got it. I'm sending you to a secure page on JustAnswer so you can place the $5 fully-refundable deposit now. While you're filling out that form, I'll tell the Chevy Mechanic about your situation and then connect you two.

Hi there.

I can probably help you, but first I need to know a a little more information:

  • What is the model, engine size and drive type of your 1999 Suburban
  • Is this a factory-installed towing package - including trailer connector and wiring?
  • Is the fuse 9 you refer to in the underhood fuse box - is it marked as a "spare"?
  • Does the fuse blow even with the 7 pin trailer connector not installed?
