1993 Corvette annv. convertable. A/C inop. fan works, all

Customer Question

1993 Corvette annv. convertable. A/C inop. fan works, all controls on controller work, compressor wont kick on, no power to low or high side when jumped, jumped compressor directly to battery and works. Replaced controller still same problem, no codes in controller. Any Ideas?
JA: Huh? How is the air flow? Have you checked the hoses?
Customer: Air flow is good on fan at all speeds, there is just no power signal to turn on compressor, also topped of freon when compressor was jumped.
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself?
Customer: Well had it at a friends service garage for diag. they thought controller, so I put one in, now that I know its not controller have more info to take to chevy dealer I guess.
JA: Is there anything else important you think the Chevy Mechanic should know about your Chevy?
Customer: Would fix myself if just changing out parts
JA: OK. Got it. I'm sending you to a secure page on JustAnswer so you can place the $5 fully-refundable deposit now. While you're filling out that form, I'll tell the Chevy Mechanic about your situation and then connect you two.

do you have a manifold gauge set?

how much pressure is on the low side?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I took it to a shop, they jumped the compressor directly to bat, put the gauges on it and added freon it was low. After triing to jump low side and high side to no avail they then jumped comp. diectly to bat. comp worked fine, they assumed controller, so i put one in and same prob, thats all I know
Expert:  Tim's Auto Repair replied 6 months ago.

ok,,so,you dont have a way of testing the pressures now?

Expert:  Tim's Auto Repair replied 6 months ago.

Customer: replied 6 months ago.

did it get cold when they wired/jumped the compressor?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
it got cold
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
However, could have been colder but due to direct connection it could not cycle

are you saying compressor wont run if you jump the low pressure switch?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Thats correct, he tried jumping low and high switch and there was no power to them, thats when jumped to battery, his conclusion was controller
Expert:  Tim's Auto Repair replied 6 months ago.

ok..do you have the automatic or the manual controller?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
because there was no power getting to switches, and all fuses appeared good in fuse box
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Automatic
Expert:  Tim's Auto Repair replied 6 months ago.

ok..

Expert:  Tim's Auto Repair replied 6 months ago.

i would think you hhave checked the fuses?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
fuses in fuse box all looked good
Expert:  Tim's Auto Repair replied 6 months ago.

how about the compressor relay?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Dont know about relay, but would that prevent power from getting to switches, and allow comp to work jumped to battery?
Expert:  Tim's Auto Repair replied 6 months ago.

it would allow it to work by connecting directly to the battery

Expert:  Tim's Auto Repair replied 6 months ago.

here is what i think...

Expert:  Tim's Auto Repair replied 6 months ago.

i think if the fuses and the relay are in fact good....

Expert:  Tim's Auto Repair replied 6 months ago.

i would think you have a problem in the wiring harness or the ecm[computer] itself may be bad.

Expert:  Tim's Auto Repair replied 6 months ago.

i can give you a wire diagram if you want to do some testing.

Expert:  Tim's Auto Repair replied 6 months ago.

will that work for you?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
That part would be beyond my ability, will have to check with dealer.
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Is it worth throwing in a compressor relay just to see first?
Expert:  Tim's Auto Repair replied 6 months ago.

well, that would be a hit or miss..

Expert:  Tim's Auto Repair replied 6 months ago.

it may or may not
