Hi,The lock symbol on the dash typically indicates a problem with the security key system. It is designed to receive a signal from the ignition key to turn off the security system and allow the engine to start. The first thing to try is a spare key. This would tell you whether the problem is in the transponder (the chip in the key), or the transducer (the box under the dash that receives the signal).

What does the key look like? Just a basic metal key or the black plastic style?

Will the engine crank and not start or does it just do nothing at all?

Are you getting any communication with the PCM with a scan tool?
Expert:  Jared D replied 11 months ago.
Check for 5 volts on the White/Yellow wire at the ignition switch terminal 5 with the key in the start position. If there is 5 volts at terminal 5 at the ignition switch, check for voltage that is less than 5 volts at terminal 4 on the ignition switch White/Blue wire. The voltage will vary depending on the resistor in the ignition switch. If there is 5 volts at terminal 5 but 0 volts at terminal 4, replace the ignition switch.

Will do

Let me know what you find, and whether you are getting communication with the scan tool.
