Pull the dipstick on the transmission, and inspect the fluid. How does it look and smell?

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
I did that looks and smells fine
Expert:  Jerry Newton replied 8 months ago.

I'd be looking at the cooler to make sure it's not blocked. Do you have an aftermarket cooler installed or anything like that?

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
I have noticed the shift from first to second feel s like I put a shift kit in it for the last few weeks no after market cooler

Check engine light on? Do you have a code reader or scan tool that can retrieve trouble codes?

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
I have access to one. The check engine is on but it is the knock sensers
Expert:  Jerry Newton replied 8 months ago.

Have you checked recently to see if there are any transmission codes setting as well?

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
No
Expert:  Jerry Newton replied 8 months ago.

I suspect that you're going to find some transmission codes there. That would explain the harsh shifting, the computer defaults to max line pressure when there is a malfunction.

I think that's probably separate from the overheating issue, though. Cooler flow is the thing to test. Easiest but least elegant method is to simply take the cooler lines loose from the transmission, and use low pressure compressed air to blow through the cooler lines and see if fluid flows through it.

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
I will try that . I felt the line's and they were not that hot
Expert:  Jerry Newton replied 8 months ago.

It might also not actually be overheating, due to a faulty sensor. Scan tool may actually tell you this.

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
When the gauge go's up reverse gets jumpey
Expert:  Jerry Newton replied 8 months ago.

OK. Well, let's start with basics, let's see if the cooler flows and what those trouble codes are about, and go from there.

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
Thanks will try that
