  1. How long was it driven while overheating?
  2. Did you check the oil level and condition?
  3. How many miles on the vehicle?
  4. Did any lights come on while driving while it was overheating?

It may have hydrolocked if the head gaskets went bad and the cylinders filled with coolant. If the belt broke it could cause it to overheat and drain the battery. If coolant leaked into the oil it could cause it to overheat and the engine wouldn't start.

You should check the oil level and condition, see if belt is ok, check coolant level.
