Customer Question

My 2005 AWD Equinox makes a high-pitched squealing noise when shifting into second gear (and all higher gears). The noise gets higher pitched as speed increases. Noise is not affected by shifting into neutral or turning. What do you guys think?

Welcome, I am Chris (aka-Moose)

You mentioned it is not effected by shifting into neutral. Are you saying it still occurs in neutral at speeds equal or above 2nd gear, if that is the case then its speed related. If it does not occur once shifted to neutral then I suspect a valve body issue, faulty planetary gear set or thrust bearing failure in the trans.

As mentioned in my first response, I would stay in contact with you. I've noticed you have not rated the post. So I assume you were not pleased with my help. I hate that you have spent money to get an answer but left not happy. Can you tell me why, or can I help more. If its more help you need just reply and we can pick up where we left off.
