2007 Chevy Suburban. Suddenly started making a ticking noise

Customer Question

2007 Chevy Suburban. Suddenly started making a ticking noise you can hear when idling. The ticking increases with acceleration. Oil pressure and temperature are both good.

Hi there, I am Cam. Can i get your first name please?

With your Suburban, do you get a check engine light on?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Wendy. And, yes the check engine light is coming on as well as the traction control light. But they both come on intermittently, then they disappear and come back on again.

OK, does it feel like the engine is not running properly Wendy?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No, it seems to run fine except for the ticking sound. The oil pressure and temperature are fine. The ticking goes up and down with the rpms.

OK it could be something as simple as a bad spark plug, or on the other end, it could be a bad lifter causing a misfire. Are you looking to do the work yourself?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Depending on the cost. We would like to take it somewhere, but not if it's crazy expensive. Or, we may have my Dad do it, but he is out of town right now.

I would look at spark plugs and wires yourself as they are easy to replace. After that you may need to take it in. Lifters require the cylinder head to be removed.

Do you have any idea what we are looking at cost wise if it is a lifter that needs to be replaced?

If the lifters are bad, I would guess about 1500.
