I have a 1997 c3500 had w 454. Bought it and drove it week

Customer Question

I have a 1997 c3500 had w 454. Bought it and drove it for a week and it died on the way to a job. Plugged in scanner and said bad cam sensor so replaced it along with cap and rotor. Still nothing cranked and back fired. Checked fuel pressure and was week so replaced pressure regulator and fuel pump filature is new. Good pressure and have spark. Pulled plugs they are wet of fuel but get spark. Changed crank sensor as well and still the same. Cranks and tries to start then locks up like its out of time.

how many miles? have you checked the timing chain?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
91000 miles and I have not If timing chain was bad would I get proper spark
Expert:  JOHN aka Eauto replied 1 year ago.

You will still get spark with a jumped timing chain, if it is broken you would have no spark

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok I will check the timing tomorrow and if its off then open it up and see. I will let you know

let me know

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Well it wasn't the timing so finally took to a mechanic and the distributor gear broke and messed up the cam shaft and was all due to the oil pump failed. This is what it's down to and with miles on motor not worth fixing with out doing a full rebuild
Expert:  JOHN aka Eauto replied 1 year ago.

so the distributor was not turning that's terrible
