Customer Question

Truck starts and immediately dies. Replaced lift pump just for good measure, despite getting fuel. Pmd was already relocated. It cranks good, starts and then dies a second later. Broke down on side of road. Help!

hi there, I am Cam. Sorry to hear about this. Wha happens if you unplug the 6 pin connector on the top of the fuel injection pump? Its hard to get at as its under the upper intake.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
If I unplug that, it just cranks, and doesn't start at all

Perhaps a theft issue.

have you tried a theft relearn?

How do you do a theft relearn
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I don't think it has an antitheft. No key fob. Dealership said it did not come with that option
Expert:  GM Tech (Cam) replied 1 year ago.

The theft system is built into it from the factory. To relearn it, do the following. Try to start the vehicle, when it stalls leave the key alone for 10 minutes until the security light stops flashing. Turn the key off for 30 seconds, repeat that process two more times for a total of 30 minutes and then see if it starts. If not, but it's entirely possible your injection pump was fail internally.

There is no security light

Did you replace the PMD after this started?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No, it was replaced and relocated 3 years ago. But if it was the pmd, would it even start to begin with?
Expert:  GM Tech (Cam) replied 1 year ago.

Yes. Start stall is one of the most common failures I have seen with the PMD.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I ohmed the green wire and got 2 volts, checked pink wire and the light illuminated. Checked wire C, light illuminated. So the PCM is sending signal to pmd. We tested at the connector on top, because the pigtail going to the pmd has all black wires.

How can I make sure it's the pmd vs the injector pump. Not made of money so, lol.

Try a PMD. That's the only way to tell.
