Chevrolet Repair Questions? Ask a Chevy Mechanic for Answers ASAP
Hello, my name is Bobby. Thanks for the question. Can you tell me if the Suburban is starting and running now?
Thanks. So as of right now it just cranks over? Any attempt to start or just steady cranking?
Thanks. If the security light is on while cranking the engine then the security system is shutting the fuel injectors down. If not then it may be a failure in the ignition switch or more commonly the crank position sensor.
I would check for spark first. Then if there is spark try adding some fuel directly into the engine to see if it will start. That will give us a good place to start.
Thanks Ted. If it will run with the starting fluid then it does have spark and it should have compression and timing. It sounds like either the fuel injectors are not pulsing or the crank sensor is not sending a signal and cycling the injectors. Do you have a noid light to check for injector pulse?
You can use a voltage meter set on a/c between the two terminals on one of the injector connectors and crank the engine to see if there is a voltage signal.
Does the tach show an rpm signal when cranking the engine?
Thanks. That does clarify this. From that description and from the code you are getting you need to replace the fuel composition sensor.
These typically will just fail, but it can be bad gas.
They are usually about $300-400.
