Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

If the engine dies immediately then there is a good chance it's a torque converter issue. In the front of the converter there is a disc clutch that is turned on at higher speeds to give a mechanical lock between the engine and trans. If the converter clutches comes on at a stop then it will drag the engine down and kill it with much the same feel as letting out on the clutch with a manual trans while still holding the brake. If this is what you're feeling then the torque converter clutch is turning on. The converter clutch coming on at a stop could be the lockup solenoid, a valve body issue, or the converter itself.
