Hi, MyName is***** have over 20 years experience repairing vehicles. I am a ASE Certified Master Auto Technician. I am confident we can resolve your problem together. Please remember I don't know your skill level. I can't see, smell, hear, or touch the vehicle. It may take a few back and forth replies to get to a satisfactory resolution.I also try to give all of the information you may need expecting a positive rating. If there is any reason I cannot get a positive rating please let me know.
Just for clarification: Your vehicle shut off at the end of a trip and the lights stayed on and wouldn't go off. now it wont start?
1. Are the lights still on?
2. When you turn the key you have nothing or will it crank?
Do the lights on dash come on?
Will the engine crank?
Do you have a test light?
Can you check IGNA fuse under the hood? it should be a 40amp.
Can you jump it again and see whet the voltage is when running? Your symptoms indicate an alternator not working.
Either a volt meter or the gauge on dash
Have you disconnected the car you were jumping it with?
Do you have a battery charger? I would suggest charging the battery before we continue. You may just have a bad battery and the alternator just cant keep up.
That is the throttle body and the click would be normal when it shuts off. Do you have reduced power message on the dash?
Can you verify if you are getting fuel pressure and spark?
If you pull off a plug wire and insert a old spark plug or spark tester would be easiest way to check for spark
Lets determine no start first. Once you get to start we will see why lights stay on. We may find cause while determining no start
OK. You stated earlier it cranked for 30 seconds.
Do you have a security light on?
OK. So what are the current symptoms?
Will it crank?
Will it start?
When it wont crank do you have a security light on?
Does the starter crank the engine and it just wont start or no click or nothing?
Do you have a test light? Can you check power to starter relay?
If you pull starter relay out you should have power at 2 of the terminals when you have ignition switch to start
at both? can you jump 30 and 87 and see if it cranks?
next check the crank fuse for power when you have in crank position
OK. Did you check crank fuse for power when in crank position?
Underhood fuse box?
OK. Now we need to go back to relay. Check for ground at 1 of the terminals when put to crank position.
make sure it is only grounded when in crank
put test light to positive of battery and put on relay terminal
It is not cranking now correct?
No it should be 85
30 and 86 should be 12 volts in crank position
The PCM is supposed to provide the ground. It is very possible you have PCM causing your problems with the no start.
My concern is there is no common link to the lights in the PCM. So you either have 2 problems or you have 2 wires that have melted somewhere to ground
yes multi meter should work fine
the test light should work fine. Check 30 and 86 for positive by hooking lead of test light to ground. 85 should be ground hook lead to positive
OK. ground should be 86 then
OK. The PCM is not providing ground.
It is under hood silver box. Will likely need to replaced. The replacement will need to be programmed.
Need to determine that it is not a wirING problem. I would suggest hooking up a scanner and monitoring scan Data for starter inhibit
The pcm's vary in price. A professional scanner will be required for starter inhibit data
A lot of shops do programming. I would check with a local shop and see if they can assist
Please don't forget to leAve a positive rating
Needs to be programmed to start. Not pcm for sure just likely. I cannot say for sure since you don't have professional scanner that can monitor starter inhibit
There are several. If you are doing mostly work at home I would get a autel ds708. You can get one on amazon for less than 1K
Please don't forget to leave a positive rating
