Chevrolet: My factory installed brake controller doesnt work.

Customer Question

My factory installed brake controller doesnt work. What do I need to do?
When I tow my rv the trailer brakes dont work. I have a 2013 silverado. They worked with my old silverado with aftermarket controller.

Hello, I'm Cam.
Can I get your first name please?
Sorry to hear about this issue. Can you tell me if your truck senses the trailer attached or is there a warning on the dash that says SERVICE TRAILER BRAKE?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
My name is***** do I know if the truck senses the trailer. All I see are dashes.
Expert:  GM Tech (Cam) replied 1 year ago.
Randy, it will say TRAILER CONNECTED.
Do you get that or any warnings?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No it doesnt say anything
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I do have trailer lights. Brake lights and turn signals just no trailer brakes.
Expert:  GM Tech (Cam) replied 1 year ago.
Ok Randy, it may be that your trailer brake system is not the proper resistance to operate with your truck. There is a way around this, but first, is there any other trailer you can connect to for testing purposes to ensure the truck's trialer brake will recognize it?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No I dont have another trailer.
Expert:  GM Tech (Cam) replied 1 year ago.
Understood, however we need to see if your trick will sense a trailer hooked up on that trailer brake circuit. Do you have another one to try and connect the plug to? You won't need to tow it, just plug it in.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I may have a neighbor I can probably hook up to their trailer.
Expert:  GM Tech (Cam) replied 1 year ago.
That would be VERY helpful.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No one is home, sorry.
Expert:  GM Tech (Cam) replied 1 year ago.
Can we reconnect a bit later after they are? There is no way to continue until we know which part is not working, the truck or trailer .
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
