Chevrolet Camaro LT: , I really need help on a 2013

Customer Question

I really need help on a 2013 Camaro LT1 V6 automatic.
I live abroad and know that it is not easy to deal with unseen issues, but please what I need first is a specialist idea of what may be my car problems.
To breifly explain, I had a car accident and the car was towed in Parking position.
While in parking position the car doesn't brake and hand brake is necessary to remain static. Gears do not pass as shift is blocked on parking.
My Garagist wants to change complete gearbox to solve the problem, but I hope there should be another cheaper solution.
Also there is oil slowly leaking from below the gearbox.
What do you think?
I'm ready to pay your advice by paypal or credit card if necessary.
In case any item is necessary I can also order from you if you send abroad (I live in Guadeloupe).
I imported the car from Canada and In my country there is no specialist.
I would appreciate any advise from you.

Hi there,
Your mechanic is correct. If the vehicle can be rolled when park is selected, either the shift linkage is slightly out of adjustment or the parking pawl within the transmission is broken.
Towing operators should not move cars like that, while they are still in park.
Places too must stress on all components while the tyres are skidding locked on the ground.
Hope this gives you some advice.

Please tell if parking pawl can be changed.
if yes can it be done by any mechanic?

What is approx. Price for parking pawl?
Expert:  Gary replied 1 year ago.
If it is a broken park pawl, it is a FAIRLY EXTENSIVE job to replace, virtually transmission rebuild.
That is why your mechanic is saying you need another transmission.
You also have an oil leak from the transmission which could be a fracture in the main case from the park pawl mechanism.
