I have a 2003 chevy suburban that gives out a grinding noise when I go to start it. It starts without any problem however, and the grinding noise goes away shortly after I engage the gears and begin driving. The vehicle has just over 163,000 miles on it.

with the hood open and duplicating the noise what area of the engine do you hear this noise from ?
if you remove the drive belts and start it up will it make this noise with the belts off the engine ?
