1995 Chev 2500 4wd...Lost power assist on brakes..I can hear hissing sound as I apply the brake pedal..unhooked vaccume hose .. no hissing but same no assist with braking. What needs to be replaced and is this something I can do?

Your power brake booster has failed. It has a vacuum leak so it no longer can provide the boost function that works on pressure differential. The master cylinder has to be removed from it and the nuts taken off from inside the cab. Then you remove the pedal connection and it comes out. The only thing that may need adjustment is the plunger but that is usually not necessary. You can get the part from any auto parts store.
