hi Igot a 1999 Chev Astrovan The heat & air works but the air only comes out of the defrost vents. The switch on the dash that directs the flow may be broke. It looks like it would be a time consuming task to remove & replace it is located high on the dash above the radio. I would appreciate any input my name is Frank

yes that'swhat it looks like
ok can you make sure its just one of the knobs has cracked the knob for the mode if you grab that knob with your hand will it side off ? if so if you look at the knob that slid off is the plastic cracked or broken where it slides onto the shaft on the heater control?
Thanks for your patience, I'm in calif I ask a question and don't get back 'till the next day. The switch is on secure. it will turn on the AC but the air is only directed thru the defroster. I'm tempted to replace the whole module. (if I can figure out how to remove it) We had the car "smogged" last year and the tech spent 4 hours taking the rear engine cover off . So, I'm wondering lf he may have messed up the HVAC system while he was struggling with the engine cover.
ok before you pull off the engine cover open the hood and looking at this picture here you will see a vacuum line coming off the engine to a big round plastic ball a vacuum reserve it looks just like a toilet bowl float.the vacuum line runs to that then runs into the van most of the time the vacuum line is broken or cut or poped off.it is mostley a plastic vacuum line and they love to break.repair that and then after that is fixed and you restore vacuum to the insdie of the van your mode seslection should work fine
