Taking gas cap off to vent pressure.
Hello, I'm Cam. At anytime during our discussion you need more information or clarification, please reply. The system should not be under pressure like that, so I would think a couple things. First is the evap system, is the check engine light on? Second, was there a high pitched whining?
Check engine light comes on and off in this RV. we've had it checked multiple times. No it was not on at this time.
The high pitch noise came from fumes being pushed out of the gas cap.
Any chance that you had the codes that turned the light on? Do you hear a humming nose when the fuel pump in the tank is running?
No to the codes
Didn't notice fuel pump noise.
Ok, with the cap loose, does it run fine and have lots of power?
Yes it seems to run fine.
I drove back to camp with the cap off. Then when I put it back on it killed the engine.
I would concentrate then looking at the evap system, but you can drive it with the cap loose in the mean time Keep the tank full to help reduce the build up of heat.
Ok So my next question is.
How long do you feel it is safe to drive it this way. as we are on vacation and must make a decision keep going or turn back. It is 1257 miles home. BUT our plan is to continue on to yellowstone and then home.
If you are mindful of the fact the cap is loose, close it overnight then only have it loose when running, I feel there is a good chance you will make it all the way with no troubles, but if anything changes on how it runs then take it is straight away.
How can I aadvise you of the final outcome as I know this would interest me if I were giving this kind of advise.
I do really wish to thank you.
