Customer Question

I'm trying to R & R a ignition lock cylinder for a 2006 Equnoix,I have disconected the battery and removed all plastic houseing.I have also unsnap a senser at the bottom of the lock cylinder houseing and I see a hole that looks like I can acess the lock cylinder retainer but I have been unable to hit the retainer to push it in and remove the lock cylinder. Am I in the right place ?what tools do I need? what technics do I use? HELP.

Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement

Removal Procedure

  1. Important: Vehicle must be in PARK prior to ignition cylinder removal.

Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  1. Disable the SIR system.
  2. Remove the steering column trim covers.



 

  1. Insert key into the ignition and rotate to the RUN position. Then rotate ignition cylinder back to ACC position.

     

    1. Depress the locking button through hole on side of ignition module assembly with a thin pick-type tool. Slide the lock cylinder from the ignition housing.

what is sir how do I do I disable it ? Is it the rectangler senser that I removed on the bottom of the picture? what doI need to do?

Sir is the air bag system. Unplug it at the base of the column
